Is a 850W PSU Overkill?
You cannot have too strong of a PSU. The PSU is rated at it’s maximum draw available, not how much it is constantly putting out. 850W is certainly overkill, but excess is always better with a PSU.
Is it OK to go overkill on a power supply?
No. Your PSU will pull whatever is needed. And a good PSU allows you to upgrade your components later. The PSU you picked up is a great one, and it will run a 960 and 4790K with ease.
Is 850 watt PSU too much?
There is no reason to buy more than an 850 W Power supply, unless you are doing tri or quad sli. 650W PSU will run modern high end graphic cards such as the GTX 780 or R9 290. 850W will sli. The pros = a 1200 W seasonic will power pretty much anything you want to put in your CPU (including small household appliances).
Is 850W good for gaming?
A large portion of PCs requires only 850W of power headroom for full loads. Even with a capable NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20-series GPU and AMD Ryzen 9 or Intel Core i9 processor will likely not require more than half of this capacity.

A high quality 850w would be ok.
Is 1000W PSU enough for 3090?
You do need to upgrade. Since you will be buying a new PSU I’d highly recommend going bigger than you need. I’d suggest 1000W or more. That’s not because you need that to run a 3090, you don’t.

That psu will work just fine. In fact, staying around 50-75% load is good to do.
Can you get to big of a power supply?
No such thing as a “too big” power supply. It’s like a big engine… It needs to be big enough to pull the load, and if it’s bigger than that, no big deal. It’s not efficient, but it’s not going to cause functional problems.
Should you oversize PSU?
An overkill PSU isn’t bad at all, in fact it’s probably best. That way you can upgrade in the future without spending money on a new PSU.
Is it better to have a bigger PSU?
Larger, heavier units are preferable to puny, lightweight models. Higher-quality power supplies almost always use bigger and better capacitors, chokes, and other internal components, and they come outfitted with larger heatsinks for superior heat dissipation—all of which translates into more weight.
Is 850W too much for 3080?
Yes, RM850x is more than enough for two 3080 or 3090 cards. With one card you are completely fine.
