All brands of Fiberon decking may be surface-fastened. Use only screws designed for composite decking. Avoid using plain, galvanized surface fasteners. Do not use traditional bugle-head screws.

What screws do you use for composite decking?
If you opt for composite deck screws, be sure to use stainless steel screws that will not rust or corrode. Select a minimum size of #8 x 2.5 in.
How do you finish the ends of Fiberon decking?
Composite decking ends can be finished by picture framing, raised fascia board, painting the ends, attaching decking veneer, composite nosing strips, vinyl stair nosing cove, composite corner trim or plastic end caps. In short composite decking, ends must be hidden or blended into the look of the decking boards.

Composite decking should not be staggered on a deck. Staggered decking requires butt joints, but composite decking expands and contracts with temperature changes making butt joints unsightly. It is better to design a composite deck with intentional design elements to avoid staggering boards for a wider composite deck.

Why won’t my cortex screw grab the cortex screw on Fiberon?
It has to do with the board’s design. Good Life Decking has a scalloped bottom while other Fiberon boards have a flat bottom. The scalloped design has advantages; however, it does not provide sufficient material for the Cortex screw to grab.
